DigiCell public workshop on Battery testing in pilot lines and field applications held

On 18 November 2025, DigiCell reached out to its stakeholders by inviting them to join the project’s 3rd public workshop on “Battery testing in pilot lines and field applications: from cells to pack”.

The event featured a variety of topics giving insights to the project’s endeavour to improve battery production by developing new chemistries, leveraging advanced testing, modelling and AI/ML techniqutes.

After DigiCell coordinator Ferry Kienberger from Keysight welcomed the participants, four presentations were given including video demonstrations:

  • Beyond Li-chemistries & pilot line characterization by Irshad Mohammad from Austrian Institute of Technology (AIT)
  • Pilot-line modeling through combination of physic models and AI by Francisco Fernandez from Université de Picardie Jules Verne (UPJV)
  • Battery module 10 kWh testing including EIS & time-domain by Manuel Kasper from Keysight
  • Battery pack testing and pilot line demonstration by Johannes Angerer from KREISEL Electric GmbH

The familiar atmosphere among the group of 20 participants gave room for questions and discussions centered around two topics:

  • Practical information and details on test methods like EIS and pulse test. Questions that arose related to the sampling time, what frequency range can be resolved, how the cables for accurate EIS results are connected and what is the most time-consuming test in the EOL (end of line) test. In addition, the participants asked for additional information (e.g. App Notes) on general battery test methods.
  • Digital twins in production test and virtual testing. Johannes Angerer from KREISEL elaborated on their use of models to shorten development cycles by pre-validating designs with simulations based on digital representations of previously measured batteries. Questions were also asked about the validation and accuracy of the pilot-line digital twin modelling from LRCS.

The feedback from our stakeholders will help DigiCell to properly integrate itself in the battery ecosystem.
