DigiCell M18 Progress Meeting held in Barcelona

Time is flying and we are already almost half-way through with DigiCell. Accordingly, the consortium meeting hosted by LEITAT in Barcelona on 27-28 May 2025 marked a milestone for DigiCell. Even more so as the mid-term Review Meeting with the European Commission is around the corner, taking place at the end of June.

Accordingly, the meeting’s primary focus was on assuring that the partners are well aligned on the technical work and soundly prepared for this important review meeting. With regard to the materials characterization work, great progress was made in the past months with the CWA on “Materials characterization - Terminology and structured documentation” been published in January 2025, including a DigiCell case study. The work on new materials characterisation methods and instrumentation for battery cell test is a very collaborative and interactive part of the project with many partners being involved. Consequently, the partners spent quite some time on aligning their work. Additionally, we are making good progress on multiscale modelling of cell materials and pilot-line processes. UPJV had, just before the meeting, given two exciting talks at the 247th ECS (Electrochemical Society Meeting) on their work in the project. And, finally, with regard to pilot line testing, KREISEL & KEYS showed that their experimental test results are close to the simulations.

The second day of the meeting had a focus on horizontal activities related to standardization and innovation. ISC joined live from Tokyo where they were attending the IEC TC113 Meeting to give an update of the standardization activities in DigiCell. Subsequently, Keysight and EURICE held an exploitation workshop in which the Key Exploitable Results (KERs) defined at the last meeting were further discussed and priority levels based on their risk level and innovation potential were assigned to them. The meeting concluded with a visit to the LEITAT labs, including their robotics and 3D printing sections as well as their photonics department.

Thank you, LEITAT team, for hosting a great event. We felt very welcome!
