DigiCell joins the OpenModel Exploitation Workshop
On 17-18 September 2024, the OpenModel Exploitation Workshop took place in Hamburg with the topic of "Integrated open modelling frameworks for accelerated innovation". Ferry Kienberger from Keysight Technologies Austria GmbH, coordinator of the DigiCell project, participated in the event. The ongoing EU project [OpenModel]((https://open-model.eu/) develops ontologies for various materials modeling applications including several use cases and modeling workflows. The ontology work from OpenModel could be interesting for DigiCell related modeling of batteries. Therefore, Ferry Kienberger engaged in first discussions on how to use the materials modeling ontologies from OpenModel for battery applications, and what kind of benefits this would have for the industrial battery value chain.
Konstantinos Sioutas was also present at the workshop. His institution IRES is a partner in both the OpenModel project and DigiCell. He therefore clearly sees how both projects could profit from one another. DigiCell as well as OpenModel emphasize the importance of standardized data structures and semantic interoperability. Konstantinos thus believes that OpenModel’s EMMO-based data structures could potentially align well with DigiCell’s need for unified models and machine learning integration, fostering greater data harmonization across materials and energy applica tions.
