1st DigiCell public workshop successfully held

On 24 June 2024, we held our 1st public workshop on “Advanced materials characterisation and modelling techniques for battery electrochemical and nano-mechanical properties”. This workshop kicked-off a series of public workshops that DigiCell will implement over its duration. It featured insightful talks followed by engaging discussions. The programme covered advanced materials characterization, new methodologies, and data analytics supported by machine learning techniques.

In detail, the following presentations were held:

  • Nawfal Al-Zubaidi R Smith from Keysight Technologies with a DigiCell project overview
  • Georg Gramse from Johannes Kepler University Linz on “Nano-macro scale energy material characterisation through advanced electrochemical microscopy techniques”
  • Edoardo Rossi from Università Roma Tre on “Impact of machine learning on development of advanced materials”
  • Manuel Kasper from Keysight Technologies on “Quality inspection of battery separators by partial discharge spectroscopy”
  • Irshad Mohammad from the Austrian Institute of Technology on “Battery new materials – Mg-ion batteries”

Participants included a wide variety of groups such as attendees from our own stakeholder group, the DigiCell Advisory Board, EMMC, industry, battery producers, and research and academia. Key discussions centered around the material characterization methods developed in DigiCell and their alignment with the EU Advanced Materials 2030 Initiative (AMI2030). There were also questions about the impact of machine learning algorithms on our technologies and the data requirements for their successful implementation, and comments regarding potential key exploitable results, such as the battery separator test method.
